1942 old fashioned molasses cake

Ingredients:

1 cup hole milk or half, and half organic
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
Half cup vegetable shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
Half cup black strap molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour un bleached
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Half teaspoon nut meg
Half teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins

Method:

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees F. lightly grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan
Whisk the milk, apple cider vinegar, and baking soda in a small bowl and set
aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until lightly foamy.
Using a standing mixer or hand mixer, beat the shortening, granulated sugar,
brown sugar and molasses in a large bowl until creamy. Add in the eggs and
continue to beat until combined
In a third bowl, blend the dry ingredients including flour, baking powder,
cinnamon, nut meg, and cloves. With the mixer running slowly incorporate
the dry ingredients in to the batter until completely blended
Using a large spoon, stir in the walnuts, and raisins, mixing lightly until
just combined
Poured the batter in to the cake pan and bake 35 to 40 minutes or until a
tooth pick inserted in to the center comes out clean. Serve warm with ice
cream or whipped cream
