Windows has a built in Malicious Software tool that's simple to use. We know it works with Windows 7 and XP Service Pack 2 and later.

Simply press the Windows key and R to bring up the Run dialogue. Next type in mrt and press enter. Now just follow the prompts.
If you're using Windows 10 the process is slightly different. As described above, press the Windows key. However, at this point simply type MRT in the window and press enter. From this point simply follow the prompts. If you choose the Quick Scan it will take around 3 minutes to run.
